Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey Hosts Successful Event

Sadie Hawkins – 50’s Sock Hop was the theme for the evening on October 20th, 2018, and there were definitely a lot of greasers, saddle shoes and poodle dresses bopping around the room! With a goal of raising $9,600 the Annual Fall Gala for 2018, this fundraising event surpassed expectations, and generated over $10,500, in addition to sponsorship dollars, for Women’s House serving Bruce and Grey.

Four Elvis(es) and the girls of ‘Grease’

What’s buzzin, cuzzin? …. The whole night was a blast! The evening featured entertainment provided by Mike Brough, who was not only the event DJ, but also the MC and Auctioneer – he kept the night rockin’.

The mouthwatering dinner was provided by The Queen’s Bar & Grill from Port Elgin, and everyone raved about it! There were lots fun opportunities for photos around the room, including a huge pink Cadillac!

The Elimination Draw kept everyone on their toes, with 2 tickets to a 2019 production with Bluewater Summer Playhouse given out as the Third Prize, a 10” Acer Iconia One Tablet donated by MicroAge Basics O/B Bluewater Office Equipment Ltd given to the Second Prize winner, and a $1,600 10kt gold and diamond bracelet with .60tw in diamonds, donated by DC Taylor Jewelers!!

There was a Best Dressed Prize given to the snazziest male and female in the room and our 50’s Trivia whiz won a 128GB iPad Mini 4 (valued at $550, and donated by Gavin Fick)!

The silent auction was, again, a great success, raising almost seven thousand dollars. The live auction had some new packages this year and generated over $4,500, thanks to all of the great businesses in our communities who believe in, and support, this great event!

Along with the excitement generated by the draws and the anticipation of final bidding efforts was a sense of charity. Women’s House is gratefully supported by residents of Grey and Bruce Counties and could not provide services without fundraised dollars.

“We certainly could not have obtained these successes without the support from our Champion Sponsors: Bruce Power, Home Depot, United Way and Unifor (Unifor presented a cheque for $5,000 at Gala, adding this to their original $5,000, puts them into the Champions category); our Believers Sponsors: Carpenters Union Local 2222, Power Workers’ Union – Equity Trust, Bruce Telecom, Progressive Results Group (PRG), Larry Bannerman, and Keith & Linda Battler; our Friends Sponsors: Community Foundations Grey Bruce, Society of United Professionals, Armow Wind LP and The Cooperators – Jennifer Cook and Associates; our Contributors Sponsors: Ontario Power Generation, Matchett Financial Services-Holliswealth, Shoppers Drug Mart-LIFEfoundation, Women in Nuclear,
Greenfield Global and Kincardine Women’s Triathlon,” says Michelle Lamont, Community and Fund Development Coordinator. “Both the silent and live auctions were huge successes this year due to the continued support of local businesses.”
