Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey receives local donation

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. To acknowledge this day, the Kincardine Nimrod Club is donating $1,000 to Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey (WHSBG) to assist them in supporting local women and families who have experienced domestic violence.

Women’s House appreciates the support provided by the Kincardine Nimrod Club as we lead up to the Vigils that are held in remembrance of the Montreal Massacre shootings on December 6th, 1989, where 14 women were murdered. We acknowledge that a gun club is an unexpected supporter of a day like this, but recognize that the education and safety emphasis that the Kincardine Nimrod Club stresses among their members, as they practice a sport they enjoy, provides an awareness that is second to none.

As a predominantly male membership, they could be the male allies that Women’s House hopes will help to share the messages of ending misogyny and gender-based violence. “With our Women’s House Mission in mind,” says Michelle Lamon, Community & Fund Development Coordinator, “We know that the education and communication that this type of membership provides, and the values that they uphold, are the key to something that Women’s House strives for, knowing that ending violence is a community responsibility and we can do that through knowledge. This is not the first time that they have supported us, as they helped to create a new playground and retreat area at our shelter this past Spring.

Mary Smith, WHSBG Property Manager says that, “Kincardine Nimrod Club have a proven track record for supporting Women’s House, and we appreciate their dedication to championing our needs and goals.”

The Kincardine Nimrod Club is a member owned non-profit organization that provides an excellent opportunity for both members and guests to enjoy sport shooting in a safe and friendly environment. They emphasize and promote proper training and safe operation and handling practices of firearms, providing members an opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport. From time to time, the Club makes financial contributions to organizations that work to meet the needs of the community. Our members are showing financial support for WHSBG as a way to demonstrate our stand against domestic violence in our community.
