Today, May 1st (2026) marks National Physicians’ Day and Brightshores Health System

proudly recognizes our more than 250 physicians who make a meaningful difference for patients and families across Grey Bruce. They bring their knowledge and skill delivering care every day and in the critical moments when it matters most.
“We are grateful not only for what our physicians do, but for who they are — leaders, mentors and advocates for the patients of Grey Bruce,” said Ann Ford, President and CEO, Brightshores. “I want to thank local physicians for their commitment to the well-being of our communities.”
Physician impact over the past year includes:
-
24/7 Emergency Care: Physician commitment makes 24/7 emergency care possible across Brightshores’ six emergency departments, supporting more than 100,000 visits each year.
-
Critical Care Expansion: Four new critical care beds at the Owen Sound Hospital are helping to meet growing patient needs, made possible through physician collaboration.
-
Mentoring New Physicians: Mentorship for medical students, residents, and new physicians strengthens recruitment and builds a collaborative care community.
-
Planning for the Future of Care: Physician insight is shaping Brightshores’ strategic planning to strengthen patient‑centred, connected care across the region.
-
Advanced Medical Imaging and Diagnostic Care: Medical imaging improvements, including a new mammography suite, support high-quality imaging and early detection and diagnosis.
“Caring for patients across our unique rural geography calls for exceptional skill and commitment,” said Dr. Cornelius Van Zyl, Chief of Staff. “On Doctors Day, we take special pride in celebrating our physicians whose resilience and dedication continue to elevate care for the communities we serve.”
