Royal Canadian Air Cadets Griffith Squadron 340 of Saugeen Shores have been experiencing a wide range of activities under the leadership of Capt. Bruce Schoettler and, now the Squadron has a new champion in its corner … Mowbray’s Canadian Tire of Port Elgin.
When the Squadron went on a field training exercise in October, the cadets slept in tents, tents that were borrowed from other squadrons as Griffith 340 did not have its own. Capt. Schoettler realizing the situation reached out to cadet Sgt. Tyler Little. He knew that Little works at the Canadian Tire store in Port Elgin and asked if he (Little) would reach out to owner Mike Mowbray for a possible solution.

When the Canadian Tire Mowbray family learned of the situation, they didn’t hesitate. They immediately stepped in and donated five six-man tents to the Squadron.
In a testimonial by cadet Sgt. Little, he praised both Capt. Schoettler and the Mowbray family. “Throughout my time at cadets Capt. Schoettler has been a great leader and always pushes cadets to be the best version of themselves they can be. He’s been at the squadron for a long time and is always looking for ways to help improve the squadron and give the cadets experiences to remember. Following our field training exercise in October, he recognized that the tents for the exercise came from other squadrons and that our squadron did not have any tents to provide. Capt. Schoettler asked me to reach out to Mike since I worked at the Canadian Tire, and Mike was more than happy to donate some tents to our squadron. This donation will allow us to have future field-training exercises and other outdoor activities with our own tents, ensuring more cadets can attend the activities. 340 Squadron is very fortunate to have such a caring and hardworking Captain leading the squadron, and to have such gracious and considerate owners like the Mowbray family at Canadian Tire to reach out to.”
“We are only too happy to help Griffith Squadron 340,” said Mike Mowbray. “Sgt. Little is a great example of the values and work ethic that the cadet leadership is instilling in these young people.”
