On March 20, Elgin Lodge Retirement Living experienced a significant flood that impacted essential services within the building. The flooding affected the heating system, phone lines, internet, and cable services, and necessitated the shutdown of the water and natural gas supply to the facility.
Ann-Marie Collins,Sales & Marketing Director, said that, in response to the emergency, Elgin Lodge initiated evacuation procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents. “By the afternoon, all residents had been safely relocated to Port Elgin United Church, where they enjoyed the hospitality of church members and dinner,” said Collins. “After supper, they were shuttled to local hotels in Port Elgin, where they are being supported by our dedicated Wellness Staff.”
“Our team is working closely with local authorities, contractors, and emergency response teams to assess the damage and restore services as quickly as possible. The safety and comfort of our residents remain our top priority, and we are committed to keeping families informed throughout this process,” adds Collins.
“We sincerely appreciate the support of our community and local businesses who have assisted us in this challenging situation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
