Canoeists rescued on the Saugeen River

On June 28th (2025) at 4:43 p.m., Emergency Crews were dispatched to the area of Denny’s Dam for a report of several canoes capsized and stuck in a barrier at the top of the dam.
Saugeen Shores Police, Fire and Paramedics responded to the area and entered the water to rescue nine people who were trapped.
No injuries were sustained during this incident and everyone was brought to shore safely.
Police remind the public that alcohol and water do not mix. Please do not drink while out on the river as disaster can happen in an instant.
The current is extremely strong on this section of the river.
