Charges laid after man attempts to disarm police officer

During an arrest in Southampton recently, a man tried to disarm a Saugeen Shores police officer when police responded to an incident that began as a domestic assault.

A 39-year-old male tried to grab an officer’s gun and then kicked and spit during his arrest. He now faces seven charges after the suspect became violent and grabbed hold of one of the officer’s firearms attempting to disarm him. 

Officers controlled the male who continued to kick and spit while being escorted to a cruiser. 

Charges include: 

  • assault
  • assault Peace Officer
  • disarming Peace Officer
  • failure to comply with probation
  • mischief
  • resist Peace Officer
  • uttering threats to cause death

He was held for a Bail Hearing and remanded into custody.
