The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC) invites the public to attend the opening reception of A Traveler’s Journey with Black and White Film, a new exhibition by local artist Dian Wise, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The exhibition showcases traditional black and white photography captured and darkroom processed by Wise over a 30-year period. It offers visitors a glimpse into the people, cultures and landscapes she encountered during her travels around the world.
Visitors will encounter intimate and evocative scenes, including a Maltese woman concentrating on the intricate craft of lacemaking, the stark desolation of an abandoned Greek village, a camel procession on the road to market in Morocco, and a close encounter with a Galapagos tortoise.
“I am intrigued by how local people live and work in different parts of the world,” says Wise. “To gain a better understanding, my role as a photographer is to communicate what I feel and capture that moment in the form of a photographic image.”
Wise brings extensive experience in black and white film photography and darkroom printmaking to her work. A former visual arts educator with the Toronto District School Board, she specialized in photography and used several sabbatical leaves throughout her career to travel and explore diverse cultures. She and her husband Doug relocated to Bruce County from Toronto.
“A Traveler’s Journey invites visitors to experience the world through Dian’s lens,” says Museum Director Cathy McGirr. “Her photographs capture both the uniqueness of cultures around the globe and the universal moments that connect us all.”
The opening event is free to attend and open to all, with light refreshments served.
