First all-candidates meeting: Don Matheson – candidate for Vice-deputy Mayor

I’m Don Matheson, and I’m running for Vice-Deputy Mayor.
This election comes down to one important question:
Who do you trust to represent you when the decisions are difficult and the stakes are high?
For me, this is personal. I grew up here. I went to school here. I raised my family here. And for more than 30 years, I’ve worked in and contributed to this community.
Saugeen Shores isn’t just where I live. It’s home.
I’ve served on Council before, and that experience taught me what leadership really means. Leadership isn’t about agreeing with everyone. It’s about listening to everyone, asking the right questions, making responsible decisions—and then having the determination to get things done.
It also means having the courage to stand your ground when necessary.
This election isn’t about looking back.
It’s about what comes next.
Saugeen Shores is growing, and the decisions we make today will shape this community for years to come.
We need to manage that growth responsibly, make sure our infrastructure keeps pace, and protect what makes our community special.
We need to respect taxpayers and ensure every tax dollar is spent responsibly, transparently and for the purpose residents were told it would be used.
And we need to restore trust. You deserve to know what Council is doing, why decisions are being made and where your money is going.
I will work with the Mayor, Council and staff to find common ground and get things done.
But I will also be independent enough to say no when I believe something is wrong.
You may not always agree with me, but you will always know where I stand—and who I’m standing up for – You.
Southampton. Port Elgin. Saugeen Township. Three unique communities. One shared future.
I know this community.
I know how Council works.
And I know the difference between simply occupying a seat at the table—and providing leadership at that table.
I’m ready to provide that leadership.
I’m Don Matheson, and I respectfully ask for your trust, your support and your vote for Vice-Deputy Mayor.
