The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is honoured to present “The Witness Blanket,” a powerful exhibition inspired by the artwork of master carver Carey Newman.
The installation is made from hundreds of items collected from residential schools, churches, government buildings and cultural sites across Canada. Each piece helps tell a story. Together, they encourage reflection on the history of residential schools and the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.
The exhibition is presented in partnership with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.

To complement the exhibition, the Museum will host a free screening of “Picking Up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket” on September 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. The film follows the creation of the installation and shares some of the stories behind it.
Following the screening, attendees can join a virtual question-and-answer session with Marek Tyler, a member of the Witness Blanket collection team.
