For those in Southampton on Saturday, November 23rd, there was no doubt that the holiday season has begun and Christmas is in the air.
It seemed that everywhere you turned, there was an opportunity to find a special Christmas gift for everyone on anybody’s list.
The day began early in the morning with the Chantry Island Cham-bettes annual Christmas sale at the Boathouse, where people began lining up at 7:30 a.m. The Boathouse was filled to the rafters with everything Christmas, and all was by donation in support of the community projects carried out by the Cham-bettes.

From there, it was on to the Chantry ‘seniors’ Centre where Artisans displayed their crafts and wares. From beautifully handcrafted jewellery to woodworking, Christmas greenery to exquisite hand-sewn bags, there was something for every Christmas wish list.
The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar has become a mainstay over the years for Christmas shopping.
This year, the event was held in Bevan Hall at St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
For the reader, there were literally hundreds of books for every age and interest, categorized by author and fiction vs. non-fiction. Another of the highlights every year is also the annual bake sale in time for Christmas celebrations at home or gift giving and, as in the past, the delectable sweet treats soon disappeared into shopping bags.
Everywhere on High Street (the main street of Southampton), shoppers were also taking in all that there was to offer by local merchants and the special Christmas sales.
For some visitors, the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre was a stop to take in the heritage of the region.
Whatever the interest, with not a parking space to be had in the downtown core, Southampton was definitely a Christmas/holiday destination on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024.
