What better way to celebrate 10 years of live theatre than with a production like Karaoke Dreamer – a rocking, fun-filled Musical for all ages! The Bruce County Playhouse production is a party from start to finish with an eclectic song list from every genre guaranteed to please even the most finicky music lover.
As the story unfolds, we meet and get to know three young ‘wannabe’ stars from different backgrounds as they perform and compete on Karaoke Canada for the chance to win a recording contract.
Playwright Robert More was in attendance on opening night to see the production come to fruition. As Actor, Director and Playwright, More is accomplished in all facets of live theatre, having performed at the Stratford Festival and winning the prestigious Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival.
The Bruce County Playhouse production of Karaoke is directed by Marcus Lundgren, with Music Director Erin Milley-Patey and Choreographer, Heather Hunter. Between them, they have created a production that rivals Broadway and Las Vegas musicals.
The cast of four is a musical treat in anybody’s book, with each performer easily handling the many genres of music from rock to country, jazz to Broadway.
Rachel Delduca (a.k.a. Alison) is an accomplished vocalist who has performed in many productions, including as Cinderella for the Disney Cruise line, in Legally Blonde at Stage West, in Little Women at Theatre New Brunswick and many more.
Alyssa Curto (a.k.a. Sheila) holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music. Among her many credits in performance are as Rizzo in Grease at Theatre Aquarius, Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at Lower Ossington Theatre and in opera as Carman in Carmen for the Ottawa Opera company.
Fynn Cuthbert (a.k.a. Justin) is a Toronto-based singer, actor and composer and is a graduate of St. Clair College’s Music Theatre Performance program. He has performed in musicals such as RENT, Tinker’s Toy Factory and as Captain Hook in Peter Pan. As a composer, lyricist and music director has has been involved in the creation five original musicals.
Dan Curtis Thompson (a.k.a. Tommy Dash) is a stand-up comedian in Toronto at various venues including Yuk Yuk’s, and performances include The Rocky Horror Show and Forever Plaid among many others. As the suave, debonair and hilarious MC of the show, he guides the three performers, who are trying to overcome personal challenges to become the winner of Karaoke Dreamer Canada, while carrying the audience into participation through his quick-wit and charm.
Among the many show-stoppers are Alison’s performance of the Whitney Huston hit ‘I Will Always Love You’, Sheila’s performance of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ and Justin’s performance of Bobby Darin’s ‘Mack the Knife’.
This is a production that covers musical eras and genres by four extremely accomplished performers with incredible voices has polished professional choreography, many costume changes and … is fun for an audience of any age.
