At the request of his Majesty King Charles III, in honour of the 125th anniversary of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Regiment, or LdSH (RC), from July 11 to July 21, 2025, the Strathcona Mounted Troop mounted the King’s Life Guard.
The rare event was historic as the Edmonton-based Canadian troops on horseback took part in one of England’s most iconic public duties and is only the third time in history that a unit from outside the UK has performed this task.
This iconic ceremonial duty marks the Regiment’s 125th anniversary and stands as a powerful tribute to their enduring legacy of honour, professionalism and tradition. This ceremonial engagement is another assertion of Canadian nationhood and sovereignty, and underscores Canada’s enduring commitment to the Commonwealth and its Allies.
