Bernie’s Boat paddling season delayed

The start of Bernie’s Boat paddling season has been delayed to Wednesday, June 4th for several reasons:
1. Weather: The forecast for the week is not good….basically more of what we experienced all weekend. We do not want our first paddling experiences of the season to be cold, wet or windy!
2. Docks: Bruce Martin is donating one side of his dock for our usage, but his docks are not in the water yet (low water levels have delayed the placing of the docks).
3. Steers: We have three steer persons who need a little more time to practise their skills and gain confidence. (Steer Course was completed in London on the weekend)
4. Water levels and movement: The water level in the river is coming up slowly. The higher the water level, the easier it will be to board the boat from the dock. Also, the water in the river is still moving fairly quickly.
5. Time: We need a little more time to get everything set up so we aren’t rushing into the first practice!!
In the meantime, Bernie’s Boat is off to the Southampton Boathouse for some pre-season maintenance work.
