Betty McCulloch – December 27, 2018

Betty McCulloch passed away peacefully in the family room at the Southampton Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday December 27, 2018 at the age of 88. Dear wife of the late Fraser McCulloch. Beloved by her daughters Marilyn (Joseph), Sue (Pat), the late Cindy, and her sons Don (Elizabeth), Carl (Avril) and Ken (Deborah). Nana will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Christian, Jessica, Timothy, Colin, Joe, Sara, Shawn, Kimberly, Cody, Emily, Matthew, Kate, Curtis, Jared, Bethany, and Brett and by her great-grandchildren, Ava, Scarlett, Jackson, Sophie, Fraser, Sydney, Gavin, and Remy. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law Dr. Paul Orr, by her many nieces and nephews, and by Barbara and Valerie.

Betty was the seventh of nine children born to Hazel and Bertie Ray Sherk, in Sherkston Ontario. She began her teaching career at SS#15 Bruce Township at the age of 18. In 1951, she married Fraser McCulloch and settled on Concession 10. While raising their six children,

Betty worked full time for the Bruce County Board of Education as a teacher and, later, was the first female principal in the County. At the same time she earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees through distance education and summer school. In retirement, she and Fraser traveled throughout Canada and the United States, and to Italy, France and the UK. Her happiest times were spent with her children and grandchildren, enjoying tea and conversations with her family and friends, and reading a good book.

Visitation at the Eagleson Funeral Home, Southampton on Thursday January 3, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Betty McCulloch will be held at the Southampton United Church on Friday January 4, 2019 at 2 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or Save the Children.
