Bluewater Outdoor Education Center honours a founding member

After 50 years of dedication to make the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre (OEC) the excellent facility that is there today, Ray Fenton was honoured with the naming of The Ray Fenton Historical Barn.

Fenton has retired from the Bluewater Education Foundation Board of Directors after being a founding member and a leader in developing the OEC.

He became involved while a Trustee of the School board to support the purchase of the existing site, assisted in organizing temporary structures and the start of students coming and staying at the OEC.

Each year, approximately 2,000 students have the opportunity to experience nature in the great outdoors at the 320 acre site and the surrounding UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Fenton organized a group of volunteers to fundraise with the dream of replacing all temporary structures at the site with permanent buildings and to continue with upgrading the facilities to provide the best outdoor learning for children.
His favourite saying is  …  “remember, it’s for the kids!”
