
For the first time, patients in Grey Bruce can now access training for home hemodialysis locally at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital, eliminating the need for frequent travel to London for the training.
Developed through a partnership between the Regional Renal Program at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and Brightshores, this initiative brings specialized dialysis training closer to home and expands access to regional, patient-centred care.
In rural Ontario medical specialty care is often not as accessible as in more urban areas, therefore, it’s important to have something like this available.

More than 50 patients receive dialysis treatment through Brightshores each year. Dialysis is a life-sustaining treatment that performs many of the functions of healthy kidneys, helping remove waste and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys can no longer do so effectively.
