Bruce County Library Board Member honoured with prestigious award

Bruce County Library Board member – Patricia Symon – was awarded with
this year’s James Bain Medallion at the Ontario Library Association Gala on Thursday,
January 31st. This annual award is bestowed upon a library board member who has
demonstrated outstanding leadership in governing a public library within the Province of
Ontario.

Symon has served as a Bruce County Library Board member over the past two decades. She
has also served as the regional representative of the SOLS (Southern Ontario Library Service)
board from 2012-2016. She has played a vital role in the continued advancement of the
Bruce County Library Service and spearheaded the library’s success in receiving
Accreditation from the Ontario Public Library Guidelines Monitoring and Accreditation
Council in 2017.

Along with her leadership capacities, Symon continues to be a passionate advocate for the
importance of libraries within their local communities. “Patricia is known as one of the most
determined and committed Library supporters,” states Grace Dawson, Interim Library
Director. “She exemplifies the value that individuals offer in shaping the continued
development of their local public libraries.”
