Laufey, the Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter and two-time GRAMMY Award winner, is known for her jazz-inspired music and global fan community. She is also the author of the New York Times bestselling children’s book Mei Mei the Bunny and a strong advocate for public libraries. In 2026, she will serve as the American Library Association’s Library Card Sign-up Month ambassador.

Through her popular Laufey Book Club and annual celebration, A Very Laufey Day (August 23), a limited number of public libraries around the world were invited to take part in a special library card program with BCPL the only library system in Canada chosen for the program. Designed to encourage library use, the program celebrates the role libraries play in fostering literacy and community engagement.

As part of this special initiative, the Bruce County Public Library will receive a limited supply of exclusive Laufey Book Club library cards.

Beginning August 23, residents will be able to:

  • Sign up for a new library card featuring the exclusive Laufey Book Club design; or
  • Exchange an existing BCPL card for a Laufey Book Club card at no charge with valid identification.

“The launch is intended to encourage more people to visit their local library, discover books and services, and connect with others in their community,” said Library Director Brooke McLean. “We are honoured to be selected for this international initiative and proud to represent Canada.”

Laufey fans, book lovers and library supporters are encouraged to visit their local Bruce County Public Library branch beginning August 23rd to learn more and pick up an exclusive card while supplies last.

Exclusive Laufey Book Club library cards are available in limited quantities and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
