The excitement was palpable in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, where attendees gathered for Willie’s annual seasonal forecast. The much-loved groundhog did not see his shadow, indicating an early end to winter — a prediction that was met with cheers and smiles.

The day’s events kicked off with a spectacular fireworks display at Bluewater Park, creating a festive atmosphere. This was followed by a performance by the Hepworth school children’s choir and dance activities in the Wiarton Arena parking lot, leading up to Willie’s eagerly awaited prediction at 8:07 a.m. Despite the chilly morning, the crowd’s spirits were high, with hundreds stopping by the Bruce Power table to chat with the team and grab a Bruce Power toque to keep warm. Visitors expressed their excitement for the Festival’s weekend events, including karaoke, road hockey tournaments and a dance.

James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Chief Development Officer and Executive Vice-President, Operational Services, addressed the crowd to express the company’s pride as Platinum Sponsor.

“Bruce Power is thrilled to once again support the Wiarton Willie Festival, as it brings so much joy and excitement to the community,” Scongack said. “Our involvement is a testament to Bruce Power’s dedication to enriching local traditions and being an active member of the community.”

The organizers expressed their sincere appreciation for Bruce Power’s continued support, and it was wonderful to see another successful Wiarton Willie Festival bring tourism to the area.
