Caitlyn Cobean’s Crusaders helps children through Jumpstart program

When you come to Saugeen Shores to play in the Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Girls C Finals Silver Stick you’re not only coming to play in a fantastic tournament, you’re helping support two charities.

We directly support the Caitlyn Crusaders, Cailtyn Cobean’s Community Crusaders was founded by family and friends of Caitlyn Cobean, a local (Port Elgin) teen who sadly lost her battle with cancer in August 2008. Caitlyn’s family and friends, in her memory and together with Taraboom are touching some very special lives.

Caitlyn Cobean’s Community Crusaders (CCCC) in affiliation with Tara “Boom” Houston Children’s Foundation (Taraboom for short) are dedicated to raising funds to help improve the lives of families whose children have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.

All money raised by Caitlyn Cobean’s Community Crusaders goes directly to TBHCF to help families in Southwestern Ontario including Grey and Bruce Counties. We were able to donate $7000 to the Crusaders.

It doesn’t stop there. With continued community involvement from Mike and Eleanor Mowbray from Mowbray’s Canadian Tire in Port Elgin, we also help support Jumpstart.

Jumpstart was founded in 2005 and helps kids overcome financial and accessibility barriers to sport and recreation to provide inclusive play for kids of all abilities, not only in hockey but in all sports. The money raised from a community goes back into that community.

Jumpstart is more than just about getting kids active. It’s about giving kids from families in financial need the same chance to participate as their neighbours, their classmates and their friends. Whether it’s the chance to try a new sport or to continue with a favourite one, no kid should be left out.

Because of the generous support of Canadian Tire Corporation who covers all of Jumpstart’s general and administrative expenses, 100% of donations help kids access sport and play.

We are excited to share that last year, combined with the Jumpstart contribution, we gave $13,000 to Saugeen Shores to support kids and families in need!

In 2023, 31 kids were supported with $8,169. Since 2005, 1,243 kids have been supported with over $209,000. 2024 is Jumpstart’s 20th anniversary and their focus is the support kids with financial needs with an additional emphasis on kids with disabilities and getting more girls active in sports.

The more we raise, the more we donate ~ and we are proud to do so!
