The Canadian Federation of Women (CFUW) Southport is ready to celebrate the month of May with many events.
Today, May 1st is May Day, rooted in ancient Norse mythology and marking the beginning of summer. “While we may not have a Maypole to dance around, we are all happy to see the trees budding and the flowers blooming, knowing beach weather is soon to follow. May 1st is also International Workers’ Day founded in the late 19th century to celebrate workers’ rights, social justice, equity and democracy – all significant areas of advocacy for women by CFUW,” says Odette Bartnicki, CFUW Southpot President.
CFUW Southport (Saugeen Shores) is one of 94 Canadian Federation of University Women clubs across Canada dedicated to advancing the status of women. Currently, there are 113 CFUW Southport members. All women, and individuals who identify as women are welcome. A post-secondary degree is not required.
Among the events planned is a Special Screening of the film ‘WOMAN’, a beautiful award-winning film by Ukrainian-born director Anastasia Mikova, and UNESCO acclaimed photographer Yan Arthus-Bertrand that gives voice to 2,000 women from 50 different countries.
The CFUW invites everyone to this FREE screening on May 14h , 2025 at 6:30 pm (sharp) at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
