Ninety-nine golfers turned out and filled the many bags donated by Southampton Foodland and Port Elgin Basics with items from a food bank list.

Canned Pasta such as Ravioli, Spaghetti
Soups
Instant Coffee
Rice
Canned Fruit
Box Cereal – not oatmeal
Canned Meat – Tuna, Chicken, Salmon
Dry Cat/Dog Food
House Hold Products – Liquid Dish Soap, Laundry Soap
Personal Products – Feminine Hygiene, shampoos, razors, soap, deodorant

“We know that the food banks do well at special times of the year, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said organizer Cheryl Smethurst, “but during the summer they can have a difficult time filling their shelves so we hold this event each July to help out.”

Special Olympians Curtis Button (L) and Ray Tomlinson (R) helped load the van for the food bank

According to the local food bank, the Ladies’ Golf collected some 900 lbs. of food and items.
