
On June 26th the Rotary Club of Southampton presented cheques which totalled $22,481 to five local organizations toward their programs to help people who face hunger, hurt and homelessness.
Southampton Rotary recently received proceeds from the United Way Bruce Grey’s Coldest Night of the Year (COYN) event held in Southampton on February 22, 2025 when 195 walkers and 33 teams raised a total of $60,374 and along with 33 volunteers and eight sponsors demonstrated how much they care for all members of our community.
Recipient organizations, programs, amounts and those accepting the cheques were:
• Family Y Grey Bruce, Eviction Prevention and Transitional Rental Payments ($8481), Nicole Gowan, Coordinator for Homelessness Services;
• Canadian Mental Health Grey Bruce, Harm Reduction Programs in Saugeen Shores ($8000), Don Vail, Communications & Fund Development Manager;
• Living Hope Food Basket ($2000), Tricia Verburg, Director/Pastor Living Hope Centre
• Saugeen First Nation Foodbank ($2000), Erin Kewaquom, Foodbank Coordinator; and
• Salvation Army Foodbank, Port Elgin ($2000), Karen Friis, Community Ministries Team Leader, Port Elgin.
