Cruising to the end of summer

As August comes to an end, so too did Cruisers Night in Southampton on August 29th.

Every Thursday night, weather dependent throughout the summer, classic cars and trucks come from far and wide to the scenic Dominion Outlook on Lake Huron at the foot of High Street in Southampton.

This year, Cruisers celebrated its 31st anniversary, and unfortunately Mother Nature eliminated four of the 13 Thursdays with her weather. Despite having only nine nights, more than $13,000 was raised.

Organized by Gary Brown, (a.k.a.Downtown Gary Brown), Cruisers has been an ongoing fundraiser for the local Saugeen Memorial Hospital and, over the past 30 years, has raised more than $300,000 through entry fees and the 50/50 draws run by volunteers.

Brown continues to remind those in attendance that, “… even if you’re a summer visitor, the hospital is there when you need it.  We’re already planning for next year.”
