Election 2026: Clearing up some Confusion when it comes to wards and voting

There appears to be some confusion when it comes to the voter’s letter sent out by the Town to ensure that you are on the voters’ list.

If you have not received your letter to date (Oct. 9/26), contact the Town Clerk immediately to ensure you are on the list.

With regard to the letter, you will receive a personal one-time pin code in order to vote on-line or by telephone.  There is also a Help Desk phone number to assist.

On the reverse of the letter is the following which is where some have apparently become confused:

In the top section, are the names of the upper Council where everyone can vote for one person of choice – Mayor, Deputy-mayor and Vice-deputy mayor.

Next are the Wards and Councillors. Choose the ward you llve in – Saugeen (Township), Southampton or Port Elgin. In that ward, chose two candidates to represent you.

For a non-resident elector, who owns or rents properties in more than one ward in Saugeen Shores, you must choose ONE ward to vote in. Make sure that you are on the voters’ list for that qualifying address in that ward.

When it comes to schoolboard trustees, the choice is simple – choose one, unless acclaimed.

Before casting your vote however, it is recommended that you become as informed as possible. To look back at the past term (4 years), the Saugeen Shores Strategic Plan Progress plan illustrates what has been accomplished by the current Council.

In addition, there have been four All-candidates meetings to date with another to be held on October 20th regarding Affordable Housing at the Port Elgin United Church (7:00 p.m.) hosted by ‘Affordable Housing for All’.

Above all, exercise your democratic right and … VOTE!
