Elgin Lodge residents return after a lengthy absence

Elgin Lodge Retirement Living is thrilled to announce the joyful return of residents to their home on April 24 and 25, following their five-week displacement.  Severe flooding in the basement on March 20th, caused catastrophic damage to mechanical systems, including water, electricity, heating and more.

Within hours, residents were evacuated to Port Elgin United Church where church volunteers welcomed them with dinner-time meal before they were transported to temporary accommodations at Travelodge and Super 8 motels. While some residents joined their families, the others were given accommodation at the Holiday Inn to ensure centralized care by Lodge staff.

After five weeks and extensive repairs to equipment and restoration of the building, residents returned ‘home’.
