Endowment Fund supports medical equipment needs

The Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation’s Caring for Tomorrow Endowment Fund was established in 1996 to help provide a healthy future for everyone in Grey Bruce.

Today, it lived up to its mission once again, providing $650,000 for 2022/23. The money will help make improvements throughout the Owen Sound Regional Hospital, including new bronchoscopy equipment used by Respiratory Therapists, new nurse call systems for several departments, new airflow mattresses for in-patient units, a new blanket warmer and televisions for the Dialysis Unit to name just a few. $13,250 of the total will assist nurses and other clinical staff with continuing education.

Like most investors, the Fund experienced investment losses during 2022, but the Foundation reinvests what is earned over and above the amount provided to the Hospital each year. This enables the Endowment to disburse funds reliably – year after year.

Foundation board members recently met with GBHS executive staff to hand over this year’s endowment disbursement.

In addition to named and special purpose funds, a large “Emerging Needs” fund helps meet the Hospital’s most urgent needs for medical equipment.  The Endowment continues to grow, with gifts from individuals, families, plus donations left through Estates.

In 2022, $214,000 was added to the Fund. With this contribution for 2022, the Endowment has provided almost $7.5 million to the Hospital.

Contributions towards the total were as follows:

“For 2022/23 we identified almost $8.7 million of new equipment and improvements at GBHS hospitals and these are our highest priorities,” said GBHS President & CEO Gary Sims. “My team and I are so thankful for the tireless work of our Foundations and for each and every donor who invests in the future of hospital care.”

A gift to the Endowment is a legacy that will ensure future generations get the hospital care they need, when they need it, close to home.
