Forbes recognizes Bruce Power as one of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity

Bruce Power has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity.

The award from Forbes comes following a Statista survey of more than 10,000 professionals working for companies with a minimum of 500 employees. Employees were asked to give their opinions on a series of statements regarding age, gender, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQIA+ and general diversity in their current workplace.

“We’re proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish but we know there’s more we can do,” said Cathy Sprague, Bruce Power’s Executive Vice-President, Human Resources. “We continue to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace and in our communities because fairness and belonging is important to all people, no matter our differences.”

Bruce Power has made a public commitment to promote the value of diversity and inclusion in their organizations as a signatory of the Leadership Accord on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the electricity industry. The accord provides a platform to create a culture of equality and inclusion, while facilitating opportunities for underrepresented groups and to support women into traditionally male-dominated roles. In 2021, 30 per cent of hires into non-traditional roles (Trades, Maintenance, and Operations) were filled by women.

The company has focused on increasing Indigenous employment and creating economic opportunities within the communities. This year, Bruce Power launched an Indigenous Leadership Development Program to provide growth opportunities to Indigenous employees and a pre-apprentice millwright program to provide educational support to Indigenous candidates with placements within the nuclear industry.

Bruce Power signed the BlackNorth Initiative in 2020 and has held educational community events and provided resources to local schools and libraries that support Black cultural awareness and history.

The company also has supported pride events and parades in the surrounding communities.

As part of its commitment to progress on its diversity, equity and inclusion journey, Bruce Power partnered with Diversio to perform an in-depth internal audit consisting of interviews with organizational leaders and an evaluation of our programs, policies and procedures to identify areas of opportunity and support the growth of inclusion.
