As 2020 comes to an end, we reflect on the challenges of the past year and those that lie ahead for our community and the world. By coming together as a community on virtual platforms, we can stay safe, healthy, and support those who are vulnerable and in need. We can also add some additional joy to this unprecedented holiday season.
In support of the recently announced Be a Light campaign, Bruce Power and NPX are proud to announce the re-launch of Grey*Bruce*Huron Strong, the app and website that was created earlier this year as a resource for connecting and keeping people close in the three counties.
Kicking off this week, GBH Strong now features the Be a Light portal for community connection, celebration and support. There are numerous virtual events planned such as free online fitness classes with local instructors, weekly conversation cafes, arts and crafts classes, mindfulness sessions, photo and art contests and more!
In addition, there is also an exciting virtual New Year’s Eve celebration that will feature a special, live performance by The Second City. This event is open to all and will be a wonderful way to ring in the New Year at home while connecting (and laughing) together as a community. It will also be a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association Bruce Grey Chapter. There will be some exciting features to this event including a live auction (via the All-in-Ontario auction platform) and special NYE take-out menus from local restaurants.
“Although there’s a light at the end of the tunnel in the fight against COVID-19, we need to continue being incredibly diligent in looking after each other,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community and Media Relations, and Economic Development. “That involves listening to our public health officials and taking the necessary measures to stay safe and healthy, while staying connected to each other with virtual platforms and supporting local businesses and charities.”
Grey*Bruce*Huron Strong, which is accessible by downloading the GBHStrong app or at www.gbhstrong.com, is the destination to access these great events and contests and also to stay connected. Bruce Power recently launched the Be a Light: Beating COVID-19 Together campaign, which will provide $1 million to work with public health, county and municipal governments, chambers of commerce, hospitals, local MPs and MPPs, and community organizations to redouble efforts to battle the pandemic.
This will be achieved through support for public health communications, additional community protections, supporting buying local, mental and physical initiatives, and lending a helping hand by working with school breakfast programs, long-term care facilities, and community organizations.
