On Monday, September 8th, construction on High Street in Southampton began on the North side of the street and traffic is now open to Eastbound traffic only with detours for Westbound traffic.

According to the Town’s website, “… final sections of old sidewalk along the North side of High Street will be removed over a period of a few days and replaced with a temporary gravel walkway. The sidewalk installation will be then be completed in large segments in order to expedite work and minimize disruption to affected businesses.”

“Placement of tree grates and interlocking brick will begin on the South side between Grosvenor and Albert Streets with additional concrete work being completed to finish the area.”
According to sources, 13 trees will be planted on each side of High Street between Albert and Grosvenor Streets.
In addition, the left turn lane Westbound at the main High Street intersection (Town Hall) at Albert Street has now been eliminated by a curb extension.
