Despite rain and cold, there was a large crowd who came out to enjoy hot chocolate provided by the Queen’s Bar & Grill and horse drawn wagon rides.

The crowd was also treated to performances by young dancers from the Sandra Belanger school and to Christmas songs by the Chantry Singers. As all performers know, the show must go on in spite of the weatherman.

A petting zoo, always popular, gave youngsters the chance to pet and feed lamas and goats, but always the most popular, of course, was a visit by Santa.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau welcomed everyone and encouraged shoppers to support their local Port Elgin merchants. Then, it was time to light the tree. Mayor Charbonneau admitted he was challenged when it came to tree lighting and chose a young brother and sister team to throw the switch and officially light the tree.
