Today, we pause to reflect on a meaningful milestone in the journey of Huron Shores Hospice — the anniversary of opening our second residential suite on April 13, 2021.

This space, named Tranquility, was opened during one of the most uncertain times in recent history. And yet, in the face of those challenges, something truly extraordinary happened — our community came together with compassion, generosity, and unwavering support to make it possible.
As shared by one of our founding directors, volunteer, and death doula Cheryl Cottrill:
“Opening our second suite took place during the challenges of COVID, which made the journey more difficult, but also showed us just how strong our community truly is. So many local partners came together to help create a warm, home-like space, and their care and generosity carried us through every step. Because of the restrictions at the time, we had to celebrate virtually, but our gratitude to our sponsors and supporters was felt just as deeply.
This milestone made it possible for us to walk alongside more families in our community when they needed care the most. It is a reminder that this growth only happened because of the overwhelming kindness and belief of so many people who helped bring this vision to life. With this additional suite, we have been able to offer more compassionate, dignified care in a peaceful home-like setting, ensuring that more individuals and their loved ones feel supported, comforted, and truly seen during one of life’s most tender times..”
Because of this expansion, more individuals have received care in a setting that feels like home. More families have been supported, comforted, and held during moments that matter most. And more memories have been honoured with dignity and compassion.
As we look ahead, we carry this same spirit forward through our Room for More Compassion campaign, working toward a third suite so we can continue to meet the growing needs of our community.
To everyone who helped bring the second suite to life — and to those who continue to support our mission today — thank you. Your kindness has created something lasting, meaningful, and deeply impactful.
