The ice on the Saugeen River at Southampton Harbour ‘let go’ overnight on Saturday, March 7th 2026.
It used to be a common occurrence but has not been seen in the past few years as the river has not frozen over completely. This year, 2026 however, is a different story.
The extent of the ice coverage demonstrates the power of the ice and the speed at which it occurred in a matter of a few hours overnight.
