It was reported in the recent Winterhawks’ game update that a medical situation occurred with a timekeeper in the Timekeepers’ box at the recent game on Saturday, March 11th at the Plex.
At that time, a Winterhawk player and paramedic, Jay Thompson, took action to assist the person in distress.
In a statement on Sunday however, the Winterhawks said:
Doug was a great player for the Port Elgin Sunocos, and on the ball diamond with the Weasels. He was a fixture behind the scorekeeper’s desk and rarely missed a game. We’re thinking of Mike, Tom and Wally, who spent countless hours with Doug in the box.
Doug sent word to us from the hospital that he was hoping to attend Game 7 on Tuesday. Trust us, he’ll be there with us. #Win4Woody is our inspiration from here on.
We send our sympathies to Doug’s family, including his wife Chris, and children Elizabeth, Kate & Stephen.”
