Law Enforcement Special Olympics run kicks off in Port Elgin

It was a warm but ‘misty’ morning as Saugeen Shores Special Olympics and local Police got the first leg of the Law Enforcement run off to an early start on Wednesday, June 10th in Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores).

Police from the OPP, West Grey, Hanover and Owen Sound joined the run along with cycle officers. The run began in the parking lot across the street from Tim Hortons on Gustavus Street where everyone enjoyed the complementary coffee and muffins provided by Tim Hortons before heading out at 7:45 a.m. along Goderich Street (Hwy. 21) south to the Giant Tiger plaza parking lot where some boarded a bus to go on to their next run in Kincardine.

Derek Spence, Law Enforcement Torch run Manager for Special Olympics Ontario, said he he likes the atmosphere that the variety of the smaller communities creae when they come together.

It’s always a fun event for the Special Olympians, families, friends and police from the various detachments

The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics.
