The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in partnership with 97.9The Bruce, a division of Bayshore Broadcasting, held their 7th annual Light the Way 12-hour radiothon today, Thursday December 8th, with record breaking results. The goal for the day was to fundraise for seven pieces of much-needed equipment for the hospital at a cost and goal of $185,000, as the government provides less than 10 per cent of funds needed for new diagnostic and medical equipment.
With the support and generosity of listeners, businesses, organizations and individuals however, the Light the Way Radiothon raised $215,000 in 12 hours, exceeding the goal!!
From the very young Lachlan and Connor Brown who donated money raised at their lemonade stand to Bruce Power and Supplier Partners, every donation was important for the hospital and its equipment needs.
“The biggest thank you goes out to every person and business that called in or dropped by the station to donate during the event and making it such an amazing success and so much fun,” said Tracy Murray, Executive Director of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Donors stopped by with donations
“Bruce Power and our supplier partners are proud to be able to help contribute to quality health care in our local communities,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power Director of Community and Media Relations. “Our Community Investment and Supplier Sponsorship Programs are aligned in donating to local hospitals and foundations to provide the best facilities, equipment and care for everyone that lives in our area.”

Murray said that, “The Foundation and its Board Members are completely thrilled with the outpouring of support of this year’s radiothon but, knowing the overwhelming support of people, businesses, sports clubs and even the kids of Saugeen Shores and the surrounding communities over the years, they weren’t entirely surprised.
“The Foundation is grateful to once again have 97.9 The Bruce partnering with us for this event. The Radiothon wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for the support of Bayshore Broadcasting. Bruce Telecom is also a key partner for this event, supplying and setting up the phone lines to allow people to call in during the Radiothon,” said Stacey Catalano, Board Chair of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Murray added that, “Light the Way is ongoing until the end of December and is the Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser for equipment needs. We urge the residents and businesses who haven’t yet donated to please return their Light the Way donation form they received in the mail or donate online at www.smhfoundation.ca or call 519-797-3230 x3230.
