Laura Robinson, a resident of Southampton and member of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)SouthPort is about to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
In August 2021, Robinson was part of a team, organized by Senator Marilou McPhedran, that helped to evacuate female Afghan athletes who were at high risk when the Taliban took over Kabul.
Robinson, an author and former Olympic athlete, worked with FIFA, Human Rights Watch, and other groups nationally and internationally to find possible routes to freedom. As a result, several Afghan women and their families have been re-settled in Canada and other countries.
Senator Marilou McPhedran will present the special medal to Robinson in Toronto on February 19th.
Odette Bartnicki, President of CFUW SouthPort, expressed that the CFUW is very proud of Robinson and her accomplishment. “CFUW Southport is very proud of Laura and we send her our Congratulations!”
