Local Special Olympic athletes heading to the National Games in Alberta

Excited athletes Ray, April and Carly from Saugeen Shores Special Olympics will be boarding a plane on Sunday, August 2nd, heading to Medicine Hat, Alberta representing team Ontario at the National Games in the sport of Bocce.

Thanks to the community for their support through fundraising events, including a golf tournament at South Port Golf course hosted by the athletes and a Music Bingo hosted by Port Elgin Pete at the Southampton Legion. 

“It’s through organizations like these and the many other supporters that these athletes are able to attend these games,” says coach Cheryl Smethurst. “It’s a dream come true for them that, after nine months of hard training, they are now ready to show off their athletic skills.  Knowing that Saugeen Shores will be rooting for them and all of Team Ontario,  their motto is “Stronger Together “.
