The Mowbray family, owners of Mowbray’s Canadian Tire in Port Elgin, has hit a second home run with Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS).
They recently donated more than $5,000 in kitchen accessories to the Home Economics program. From oven mitts to whisks, frying pans to graters and bowls to bakeware sets, the kitchen facility has everything it needs to give the students a head-start when it comes to culinary education.
There are four different food-related classes from Grades 9 to 12 and, according to teacher Amy Trelford, “The Mowbray’s support has made a significant difference in the learning environment with their generous donations of quality materials, appliances and equipment.”
“We are so lucky to have a business that truly cares about their community and cotinuously supports our youth,” added Trelford.
The second donation is a follow-up to the donation in September, 2023 of the latest in kitchen appliances.
Once again Mike Mowbray pointed out that their kids were students at SDSS. “Our kids were students here and, in fact, Zack was in the Home-ec program at that time. We believe it’s important to support these activities and as I’ve said before, it’s a matter of helping out, if and when you can … and we can.”
In appreciation, the class presented the Mowbray family with home-made cookies.
Mike Mowbray delighted with the decadently delicious treat
