The Town of Saugeen Shores is celebrating the continued success of its Municipal Housing AllowanceĀ Subsidy, which helped 35 local householdsĀ maintainĀ housing in 2025.
Delivered by the County of Bruce and supported through municipal funding from the Town of Saugeen Shores, theĀ Municipal Housing Allowance programĀ provides eligible households with a monthly housing allowance to help offset housing costs and improve long-term housing stability.
“Access to stable housing is fundamental to individual well-being and community prosperity,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau.Ā “While housing challenges continue to affect communities across Ontario,Ā Saugeen ShoresĀ has strengthenedĀ its investment in thisĀ programĀ toĀ provide immediate support that helps people remain in their homes and maintain stability.”
The Town first partnered with the County in 2023 by contributing $75,000 to expand the program locally. That investment enabled anĀ additionalĀ 10 Saugeen Shores households to receive a housing allowance, bringing the total number of local households supported to 21Ā at that time.
Recognizing the growing need for housing supports,Ā Saugeen ShoresĀ increased its investment to $150,000 in 2024 and further increased funding to $225,000 in 2025 through the Town’s annual Business Plan process.
Looking ahead, the programĀ remainsĀ in high demand. The program is projected to provide $223,020 in housingĀ assistanceĀ to 32 households in 2026.
The Municipal Housing AllowanceĀ Subsidy is a Planning and Development Division Highlight in the 2026 Town of Saugeen Shores Business Plan (pg. 67).
