On Tuesday, November 4th (2025), Saugeen Shores Fire Service welcomed a new fire truck at Station 51 in Southampton.
The new ‘pumper’ truck complements the existing truck located at the Port Elgin Station.
In a traditional ceremony, dating back to the 1800s, the new truck was ‘pushed in’ to the station by town firefighters. The tradition evolved from a time when fire engines were horse-drawn and had to be pushed back into the station by hand.
Today, it’s a symbolic way to officially welcome a new truck into service, honour the history and legacy of fire service and to celebrate teamwork.
