Notice: Public meeting in July to look at plans for High St. and Cenotaph upgrades

The first of two public sessions regarding Southampton High Street and Cenotaph revitalization/upgrades is to be held at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre on July 4th from 5:00. p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where residents can drop in at any time and talk one-on-one with the project team members.

As part of a community-driven effort to update Southampton’s High Street, the Town is refining design improvements to the streetscape. Architectural and engineering designs build on a concept created through public engagement conducted by the Southampton BIA. The project also supports the Town Council’s initiative to strengthen an active transportation culture.

The Town has engaged R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited to consult on the refined design this year (2024) and includes opportunities for public feedback and comments. The reconstruction also provides an opportunity to implement design changes that will enhance the safety and serviceability of travel options within the downtown for all users including vehicular, cycling, pedestrian and deliveries.

The Town is planning a three-year phased construction implementation plan:

  • Phase 1 (2025) – High Street from Dominion Lookout Point to Grosvenor Street, including Cenotaph Upgrades.
  • Phase 2 (2026) – High Street from Grosvenor Street to Albert Street (Hwy 21).
  • Phase 3 (2027) – High Street from Albert Street (Hwy 21) to Victoria Street.

Following the Public Information Centre (PIC), the Town of Saugeen Shores project page will be updated to share the information that was presented.
