Gary Harron of Elsinore passed away peacefully with his family by his side in his 87th year at the Southampton Hospital on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Loving husband of Yvonne Harron (nee Duggan) for 61 years. Proud father of Tammi (Brian) Ribey and Lisa Harron (Steve Radbourne). Super proud grandpa of Steven Ribey (Taylor Hamilton), Kelsey Ribey, and great grandpa of Amelia and Hudson.
Dear brother of Linda (Don) Mewhinney, brother-in-law to Lillian Harron and Gwen Harron. Also remembered by Yvonne’s family, Lorraine Sprung, Sharon (Orv) Johnston, Loretta (Garry) Bates, Lou (Sue) Duggan, Dennis Duggan, and sister-in-law Karen Duggan. Gary will be sadly missed by all of his family including many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Russell & Isabel, brothers, Douglas and Wayne, brothers-in-law Don Duggan and Harvey Sprung, sister-in-law Gail Duggan, nieces Laurie Harron and Stacey Duggan, and nephew Mark Sprung.
Former Saugeen Shores Mayor and Bruce County Warden Mike Smith says that, “Gary was a former Reeve of Amabel Township, a Bruce County Warden, on two occasions a candidate for Provincial Parliament, a long time Member of the Ontario Municipal Board, the Ontario Environmental Review Board and the Grey Bruce Children and Family Services.”
“I think one of his favourites was as a regular member of the Southampton Tim Hortons’ community morning coffee table … Gary had that unique ability to connect with people that very few people have,” said Smith.
Visitation at the Eagleson Funeral Home, Southampton on Friday February 3, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Gary Harron will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Southampton, on Saturday February 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment of ashes at Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara, at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the Cameron McTaggart Angus Scholarship Fund.
