Teachers in Ontario continue their strike and work-to-rule actions against the Ford government.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) joined the action with its first one-day walk-out on Tuesday, January 21st.
In Saugeen Shores, teachers of St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Port Elgin walked the picket line and carried their cause uptown.
This is the first time in more than 20 years, that OECTA has seen strike or work-to-rule action but, with recent talks between the union, province and Catholic School Trustees breaking down, the OECTA began job action on January 13th.
OECTA Bruce-Grey Elementary President, Kristen Fry, joined the Port Elgin group saying that while the school was open, there were no students attending. “There are several unions involved in this movement but we are all standing together and hope that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible.”
The Bluewater Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will participate in a one-day rotating strike on Friday, January 25th and all elementary students that day will be closed.
