Bruce County’s contributions towards creating an accessible and inclusive community took centre stage on January 18th, 2026. The presentation of the Ontario Age Friendly Community Recognition Award was part of a ceremony hosted by the Ontario Government coinciding with the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipalities Association (ROMA) conference.
This provincial recognition celebrates the efforts Bruce County’s Age-Friendly Community Initiative is making to improve accessibility, enhance health services, foster social inclusion and create a vibrant, inclusive environment for seniors.
Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau said, “This is a great honour. It reflects our commitment to being a welcoming community for all ages and our dedication to planning for our residents today and in the future. It confirms that Bruce County is a place to call home for a lifetime.”
The award lays the foundation for Bruce County to pursue national recognition through the Public Health Agency of Canada as well as an international designation as an Age-Friendly Community through the World Health Organization (WHO.)
