Pie in the face is worth being a fundraising leader says Pastor

The recent Gran Fondo 2021 fundraiser for Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation was a winner when it came to fundraising but, for one individual fundraiser, it was a win/win/lose situation.

Pastor David Baker, Chaplain of Saugeen Shores Police Service, stepped out of his comfort zone as he stood stoically by to be ‘smushed’ with a pie in the face for his role in leading as team fundraiser.

Baker, however, took it all in stride as he won the fundraising competition on the Police Services team but paid with a pie in his face delivered by Hospital Foundation Executive Director, Tracy Murray, who seemed to relish the chance.

“This was an opportunity to support and serve the community as well as the hospital Foundation and to raise funds for needed equipment,” said Pastor David.  “My family and I area big community supporters and any opportunity to give back is important.”

Baker went on to thank his police colleagues.  “We had a great team and I am just one member of that team that put out a great effort.”

Pastor Baker raised $1,167 and the Police Team overall raised $5,466.99

The fundraiser this year was a virtual experience where cyclists, walkers, roller-bladers, etc. took part individually and logged their distance while raising funds for the local hospital Foundation.  The funds raised go toward the purchase of three much-needed ECG machines.
