Port Elgin Legion Branch 340 commemorates VE Day

Port Elgin Legion Branch 340 commemorated Victory in Europe Day, May 8th (2025), with a wreath laying ceremony at Port Elgin Cenotaph, in tribute to the Canadians who played a key role in ending war in Europe.

Victory in Europe Day, May 8, 1945, marked the end of World War II in Europe and, throughout Europe and the U.K., there have been celebrations leading up to today’s 80th anniversary.  Some 22 Canadian Veterans, now in their nineties and some more than 100, attended ceremonies through the Netherlands where they are known as ‘Liberators’ to the Dutch people.
