 Lee Fairclough is running to lead the Ontario Liberal Party to build a strong Liberal movement across Ontario—and “an Ontario that works for people”.
According to Fairclough, she “wakes up every morning focused on making people’s lives better by addressing their priorities: affordable groceries and housing, excellent public healthcare, and an education system that puts students first.”
Fairclough spent more than 25 years in healthcare working in teams and serving others.  She began on the front lines, caring for cancer patients at Princess Margaret Hospital, before going on to become President and CEO of St. Mary’s General Hospital and helping to lead the hospital response in Waterloo-Wellington through COVID.
With a master’s degree in health policy and her role as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto, she blends academic expertise with hands-on experience to bring innovative solutions to complex problems.
Raised in rural Southwestern Ontario, she learned the value of hard work and teamwork early on— as a young swimmer with the Saugeen Shores Breakers Swim Team, lessons reinforced as a varsity swimmer, a member of McMaster University Women’s Rugby Club, and member of Canada women’s national rugby union team at the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Fairclough brings that same leadership and team-first approach to public service today.
That upbringing in small-town Southampton in Bruce County, along with the example set by her parents, a teacher and an engineer. instilled in her from an early age values that, if you believe in something, or if something isn’t right, you don’t stand by … you get in the game. She believes politics is about people and trust.
“I have recently visited 70 ridings across the province, and I have heard a growing desire for change. Ontarians want a new kind of government and leaders they can trust, who will fight for them and for their future.”
“There is no doubt there are huge issues on the table,” says Fairclough. “From health care to education, post-education and youth unemployment to the economy, loss of freedom of information to housing – people are concerned about the erosion of our democracy.”
Lee Fairclough is a 22-year resident of Etobicoke—Lakeshore, where she and her husband are raising their two boys.
