In a recent posting by Port Elgin resident, Janet Campton, she appealed to pick-up truck drivers to have some consideration for those walking, particularly when roads are slushy or wet.
“I am writing this to ask pick-up truck drivers to please be mindful of pedestrians. Twice in the past few days, I and my children have been sprayed by icy slush – the first time was at the cross walk at Catherine St when a truck picked up speed to get through the yellow light, drove through slush that hit me and my buggy. Fortunately the cover was down so my little ones were safe, me not so much.
The next day, I am standing on the corner of Bricker and Catherine with 5 children, when another truck, raced passed and sprayed us us with ice, hitting all of us, making one of my 5 year-olds cry as he was hit in the face, it was like someone threw pebbles at us hard. I know it wasn’t malicious, but I am asking drivers to be aware of their speed, and the road ahead when passing pedestrians.”
Editor’s Note: We second the appeal.
